F.G: Only Teachers with 1st Class Honors will be Employed

The Federal Government of Nigeria, on Saturday made it known that only professional teachers with first class degree honors will be employed beginning from next year being 2021. The Federal government which said it would accept Personnel’s with 2.1 qualifications. Discussing that the Idea came as part of Its rebranded efforts to improve the quality of teaching and learning In Schools in the Country. More

Arc.Sonny Echonu, the permanent secretary, Federal ministry of Education. Said this during an Inspection exercise of Professional Qualifying Examination, PQE, setup by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). Not less than 17,602 teachers across 34 states including the Federal Capital Territory are to take part in the Examinations.

While talking to newsmen, the permanent Secretary said. The verdict was aimed at recruiting only the best brains Into the Nigerian schools as teachers. He said that from 2021 they will only allow Qualified teachers to carry on with teaching Duties in the Country. Read more 

He also Said that a national Implementation Committee will be inaugurated in the week to come. So as to ensure The F.G’s agenda on the registration and revitalization of teachers comes to reality. Most Importantly the recruitment qualification for teachers coming into Schools. Which he said will be effective from next year and also added they will not and never recruit and involve expiring teachers if they do not meet up to standards as recommended….

He said they are Limiting opportunities to only the best. You either have a 1st class or have a minimum of 2:1 to be employed. Or if you have certifications in other Fields that Is not In Education. He said that a conversion programme will be administered by the appropriate bodies.

Migrating Teachers

Sonny Echono also said they are migrating teachers who are unqualify or does not meet requisite standards, competency levels or not even Licensed to leave for qualified teachers to come in. The conduct of the professional Qualification Exams, Will motivate teachers who are yet to take the exams to ensure they participate in it. Saying also that the Federal government through TRCN will always conduct the PQE.

Professor. Josiah Ajiboye the registrar and chief Executive officer TRCN, said that Nigerians staying beyond the shores of Nigeria had begun to take the exams via the virtual platforms. It’s not until they come into Nigeria to sit for it.
