This article contains a concise list of the most cheapest federal universities in Nigeria. The amount they charge per academic session is also stated.

1. Ahmadu Bello University (ABU)
Ahmadu Bello University is one the federal Universities with the most cheapest school fees in Nigeria. It was established in 1962. It is located in Zaria, Kaduna State. The University has a conducive learning environment and many sophisticated equipments for students. It has two Campuses; the Samaru and the Kongo Campuses. The school Fee is N14,000 to N45,000 a year.
2. University of Ibadan (UI)
The University of Ibadan otherwise known as the premiere Universities is another federal University in Nigeria that is very affordable interms of school fees. The University charges N16,000 to N39,000 per academic session.
3. Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB)
FUNAAB is a federal University located at Abeokuta in Ogun State. It was founded on January 1988. The University has all it takes to train students in becoming professionals in their career. Their school fee is very cheap and affordable. They charge N18,000 to N42,000 a year.
4. Bayero University, Kano (BUK)
BUK is another cheap and affordable higher institution in Nigeria. It was established in 1977 in Kano, Kano State. It has a Serene and conducive learning environment plus many research centers. Their school fees is N24,000 to N60,000 a year.
5. University of Calabar 
The University of Calabar, popularly abbreviated as UNICAL is another most affordable federal University in Nigeria. It was established in 1975. The university is located at Calabar in Cross River State. It has male and female hostels. The school fees is N31,000 to N43,000 per academic session.
6. University of Abuja, Gwagwalada 
UNIABUJA as it popularly called is a federal University located in Abuja, the Nigeria’s capital. It was established in 1988 as a dual purpose university with the Vision to Carry out both the conventional and distance learning programmes. It is one of the most cheapest Universities in Nigeria. Its school fee is ₦39,000 to ₦43,000 per academic session
7. Usman Danfodio University
Usmanu Danfodiyo University is one of oldest and most affordable federal higher institutions in Nigeria. It was founded in 1975 in Sokoto State. The Institution is named after the Sokoto Caliphate, Usman Dan Fodio. It has a very conducive learning environment which makes learning very interesting.
The school fees is between ₦24,000 – ₦54,000 for a year
8. National Open University of Nigeria
NOUN is one of the most affordable federal universities in Nigeria. It is located in Lagos state. It has over 750 courses all accredited by the NUC. The school is between ₦18,000 to ₦36,000 for a year.
9. Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, Katsina
The Federal University Dutsin-Ma popularly abbreviated as FUDMA was established in 2011 under the administration of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. The University is located in Katsina State. It has about eight faculties all all courses fully accredited by the NUC. The school fees is between ₦50,000 – ₦64,000 per year
10. University of Port Harcourt 
UNIPORT is a federal University in Nigeria. I was established in 1977. It is located in Port Harcourt. The Institution has about 10 faculties all accredited by the NUC. The charge ₦92,000 – ₦128,000 per year
11. Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike
The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture,  popularly abbreviated as MOUAU is a federal university of Agriculture that was established in November 1992. It is located at Umudike in Abia State. All the courses are fully accredited by the NUC. The school fees is between ₦42,000 – ₦53,000 for one academic year
12. University of Benin 
The University of Benin popularly abbreviated as UNIBEN is onethe most cheapest federal University in Nigeria. It was established in 1970. It has all the science and Arts related courses fully accredited by the NUC. The learning environment is always calm. The school is so cheap, about ₦12,000 – ₦50,000 for a year. Infact it is regarded as the cheapest federal University in Nigeria.
13. Federal University of Technology, Minna
As the name implies, the Federal University of Technology Minna, established in 1983 is a federal government University. It is located at Minna. The Institution has nine faculties and it is a center for academic excellence. The school fees of FUTMINNA is between
₦24,000 – ₦50,000 per year
14. Federal University of Technology, Akure
As the name implies, the Federal University of Technology Akure is a federal government Institution established in 1981. It is located at Akure. It was ranked as the best University of Technology by Webmetrics in 2015. All the courses are fully accredited by the NUC and their school fees is between ₦13,000 – ₦52,000 per year.
16. Modibbo Adama University Of Technology, Yola (MAUTECH)
The Modibbo Adama University Of Technology, is is a federal University located in Yola. It has a sophisticated research center. The Institution has Hostel that are so affordable. School fees is between ₦15,000 – ₦42,000 for a year.
17. University of Lagos
UNILAG as it is populary called is a federal university located in Lagos State. It has a student capacity of about 57,000  and it’s regarded as one of the most populous higher institutions in Nigeria. The school fees is ₦14,000 – ₦64,000 per a session
18. University of Uyo 
UNIUYO is a federal government owned Institution Located in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. It was established in 1991. It has 13 faculties, all accredited. It is one of the Universities that runs the Predegree programmes. The school fees is ₦60,000 – ₦70,000 for a year.
19. University of Nigeria, Nsukka 
The University of Nigeria, normally abbreviated as UNN was founded in 1960 by Nnamdi Azikiwe. It is a federal University located at Nsukka, in Enugu State. It has 15 faculties and over 100 departments. The school fees is ₦40,000 – ₦71,000 for one academic year.
20. Nnamdi Azikiwe University
 UNIZIK as it is commonly called is a Federal higher institution in Nigeria. It is located in Anambra State. All the courses are accredited by the NUC. The school fees is ₦20,000 – ₦70,000 per year.
21. Obafemi Awolowo University
Obafemi Awolowo University commonly abbreviated as OAU is one of most cheapest federal Universities in Nigeria. It was established in 1961. It has all the courses fully accredited by the NUC. the school fees is between ₦19,000 – ₦58,000 a year.
22. University of Ilorin 
UNILORIN is a federal University located in Kwara State. It was founded in 1975. It has 15 faculties with all departments fully accredited by the NUC. The school fees is ₦19,000 – ₦58,000 for a year.
 
23. Federal University Of Petroleum 
The Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun is commonly abbreviated as FUPRE. It is one of the most affordable higher institutions in Nigeria in 2020. It is located in Delta State, and was created in 2007. Most of the courses are fully accredited by the NUC. The school fees is ₦37,000 – ₦80,000 per academic year.
