What are the requirements for NIN Registration?

We’ve now Listed below, the most non-complex steps available for any Student to get his/her National Identification Number (NIN). Currently the 2021 UTME registration may not be successful for candidates who hasn’t gotten their National Identification Numbers (NIN).

What’s the Meaning Of NIN?

NiN is the acronym for National Identification Number. It’s made up of eleven (11) non-Intelligible Numbers which are unconventionally chosen and given to an Individual, after every successful registrations and enrollment into the National Identity database (NIDB).

And it can never be given to another individual and also not be used by no other asides the owner which makes it unique.


If an individual dies, or he/she is retired and Immediately a death certificate is submitted to the commission then the persons death is recorded.

The National Identification Number (NIN) helps in compiling all records about a person into the database and is used to help verify his/her Identity.

The Process of National Identification Number If you haven’t registered Yet

Get to the Closest National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) with your Bank Verification Number (BVN) carrying the under listed Original and a validated Supporting Documents:

  • Old National ID Card
  • Driver’s License
  • Voter’s card (Temporary or Permanent)
  • Nigerian International passport
  • Certificate of Origin
  • Attestation letter from a prominent ruler in your community
  • Birth certificate
  • Declaration of age
  • Attestation letter from religious/traditional leader
  • NHIS ID card
  • Government staff ID card
  • Registered/recognized private organization staff ID card
  • School ID Card (private/public)
  • Tax Clearance certificate
  • Valid immigration documents


The Process of Enrolment and Registration Center:

All the necessary processes of registration can be done completely at a certified registration center. Because of the Corona Virus pandemic in the country there are restrictions put in place, you are required to book an appointment for your registration.

So as to reduce the duration of staying at the Enrolment Center, you are permitted to download, make a print out and also finish the whole enrolment form via their official site  https://nimc.gov.ng/

And move to the NIMC center nearby to complete the remaining registration steps.

What are the requirements for NIN?

STEPS To Guide You on the Enrolment Process

  • Applicants are expected to move to the nearest  enrolment Centre close to them https://schoolwhat.com with a supporting document.
  • Applicants will be alerted if they have ever been registered on the National Identification Number verification portal.
  • Applicants will be given an enrolment form to complete if they have not been enrolled before. And for the applicants who had the NIN already via the pre-enrolment Service, a printed Barcode Slip will be received.
  • Applicants who have completed their forms will be vetted by a National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Official to confirm the information provided on the given form against the supporting document given and to check for mistaken info written on the form.
  •  Note: applicants who are older or cannot write or read are to come with a more enlightened individual who can read and write so as to enable them complete their forms.
  • Applicant’s pre-filled information will automatically be updated on NIMC Software by an officer of the commission and the Barcode slip would be scanned to copulated all the required field.
  • The commission’s registration officer will ask the applicant to cross check his/her information for any mistakes using the applicants monitor.
  • If the applicant is satisfied with his/her provided demographic data’s, the biometrics (scanning ten finger prints and getting the facial image) of the applicants will be captured subsequently.
  • After completing the NIN registration, a Transaction ID Slip will be given to the applicant as prove of a successful transaction. However, the Transaction slip does not mean you have or does not mean the NIN belongs to you.
  • And applicants are expected to report back for their National Identification Number within 1-5 working days, as it is dependent on availability of network.
  • The applicant is issued a National Identification Number (NIN) Slip
  • A National Electronic-ID Card will be given to the applicants within a period of 12months after already giving out of the NIN not minding any unforeseen circumstances.

Opening Hours: Monday’s – Friday’s (9a.m. to 1p.m.)


  • Applicants from the (0-15 years of age) should not come alone but come with parents, guardians so as to help them complete the forms
  • Applicants below from0-15yes should only bring their Authentic and valid birth certificate and National Identification Slip of one of the parents whose Nationality is Nigeria.
  • The National Electronic-ID Card won’t be given to minors until they clock 16yrs and above
  • For minor’s, on  completion of registration, a text message will automatically be forwarded to the Applicants, Parents or guardian of wards should come for updates when they clock 16 years of age.
